Celebrating the Life of Reb Noson

On the 10th of Tevet, we mark the yahrzeit of Reb Noson Sternhartz (1780-1844), the devoted chassid of Rebbe Nachman of Breslov. Reb Noson's unparalleled dedication ensured the preservation and dissemination of Rebbe Nachman’s teachings, transforming them into a living legacy that continues to inspire countless souls until today.

Reb Noson was not simply a disciple but a spiritual partner, dedicating his entire life to transmitting his Rebbe’s wisdom. It is thanks to Reb Noson that we have Likutei Moharan, Sippurei Ma’asiot, and other foundational Breslov texts. His own works, particularly Likutei Halachot, reveal his profound ability to apply Rebbe Nachman’s teachings to every facet of Torah and life in general.

His commitment to Rebbe Nachman extended well beyond writing. Reb Noson spearheaded the establishment of the annual Rosh Hashanah gathering in Uman, fulfilling Rebbe Nachman’s wish to draw people together in teshuva and joy. Despite relentless opposition from many detractors, Reb Noson remained steadfast, embodying the resilience and emunah he so deeply learned from his Rebbe.

For Breslovers, Reb Noson’s yahrzeit is not only a time to honor his memory but also to reconnect with the spiritual vitality he so strongly championed. His life reminds us of the transformative power of devotion to the true tzaddik and the ability to bring spiritual light to the world through unwavering emunah and action.

May the merit of Reb Noson ben R' Naftali Hertz inspire us to carry forward his sacred mission, bringing the light of Rebbe Nachman’s teachings into our own lives and spreading it until the coming of Mashiach, amen!
